The Cross Eco Trail connects Loven Dom Park with the Memory and Faith memorial complex in the Zaeva Polyana area above Blagoevgrad. Blagoevgrad Municipality gives the trail an official length of 1,320 m and identifies signposted starting points at Loven Dom Park and Zaeva Polyana. The route passes through a green, wooded belt and gradually climbs above the city.
Route, distance and time
The eco trail itself is about 1.32 km one way, from Loven Dom Park to the complex at the Cross. Allow approximately 45–60 minutes for the ascent depending on pace and conditions. For an out-and-back walk with time for rests and the panorama, plan around 1.5–2 hours. These times are approximate rather than an officially fixed duration.
The Memory and Faith complex can also be reached by car from Blagoevgrad via the road towards Delvino village, but the walking trail from Loven Dom is the better option when the walk itself is the purpose of the visit.
Difficulty
The route is short but includes a noticeable climb on forest terrain. For someone with average fitness it can be considered easy to moderate, although it is more demanding than the flatter city walks around the centre, Varosha and Bachinovo. After rain, or in mud, snow or icy conditions, the terrain can become more difficult.
Views and rest stops
The complex offers a broad panorama over Blagoevgrad, the valley and the surrounding mountain slopes. The 33-metre cross itself is visible from many parts of the city. There are places to take short rests along the route and areas at the complex where you can enjoy the view.
How to prepare
Wear comfortable shoes with good grip, carry water and plan the walk during daylight. Check the forecast before setting out and choose another day in heavy rain, storms, snow or icy conditions.
