Kartala is one of the main mountain areas above Blagoevgrad. Located in the Bodrost area around 25 km from the city, it combines relatively easy access with the atmosphere of higher Rila.

In winter the area is known for its ski zone and facilities. The municipality also identifies Kartala as suitable for summer and eco tourism, making it a natural continuation of a visit to Bodrost.
