The Regional Historical Museum of Blagoevgrad was founded in 1952 and for more than seven decades has preserved, researched and presented the history and cultural heritage of the Pirin region.
The museum in Varosha
The museum is located in the historic Varosha quarter, next to Presentation of the Virgin Church. Its location makes a museum visit part of a wider walk through Blagoevgrad’s Revival-era and spiritual history.
What to expect
The collections and exhibitions present different layers of Southwestern Bulgaria’s past and heritage, from archaeology and historical evidence to ethnography and natural heritage. The museum has a cultural, scientific and educational role and is one of the key places for visitors seeking deeper context about the city and region.
Plan Your Visit
Combine the museum with a walk through Varosha and a visit to Presentation of the Virgin Church. Opening hours, access to individual exhibitions and temporary displays can change, so check the latest information shortly before visiting.
